Commonly Used Dry Tailings Discharge Process

The dry tailings discharge process is mainly to dehydrate the tailings in multiple stages to form tailings with small water content, which are stacked in the tailings pond in the form of dry slag. The dry tailings discharge process eliminates the dam-break hazards caused by traditional wet discharge to the tailings pond, reduces environmental pollution, and also reduces a large amount of land occupation. Moreover, the tailings after the dry discharge can participate in secondary utilization, such as filling the goaf, making construction materials, building roads, making fertilizer, and so on.

The commonly used methods of the dry tailings discharge process

1. Thickener + ceramic filter unit

The dehydration efficiency of this dry tailings discharge method is higher, and the dehydration component can be as low as 10% or less. This group of equipment is suitable for the dewatering of medium and fine-grained tailings and concentrates, but it is difficult to dewater coarse-grained tailings. However, the production cost of this group of processes is relatively high, and the filter plate of the filter is easy to be blocked and inconvenient to clean. So this group of equipment is suitable for medium and large production lines.

2. Thickener + chamber filter press

This group of equipment is suitable for the dewatering of medium and fine-grained tailings, and the moisture content can be as low as 15-20%. Large production capacity, suitable for investment and use by large enterprises. However, the filter press is expensive, the filter cloth is easy to break, the service life of the filter press is not long, and the discharge of ore is not continuous.

3. Thickener + hydrocyclone separator+ belt filter press

This group of processes applies the cyclone to the dry tailings process, which is only suitable for medium and coarse-grained tailings, and the product dehydration can be as low as 15%-18%. However, this group of equipment has been put into production, the cost is high, and power consumption is high.

4. Hydrocyclone + thickener + multi-frequency dewatering screen

This group of processes can be suitable for the dehydration of various ores within 80% of -325 mesh, and the dehydration rate can be as low as 15%. The operating cost of this group of equipment is 50-70% of that of other units. The equipment is lined with wear-resistant rubber parts, and the replacement frequency of wear parts is low, which also prolongs the service life of the equipment.
